About This Episode:

In the latest Weed Wonks episode, Wana Brands Vice President of Innovation Mike Hennesy tells us all about his recent trip to Morocco, where he was welcomed into the villages, homes, and tajines of the Amazigh people.

High (literally) in the Rif Mountains, Mike saw a cannabis culture and way of life virtually unchanged since ancient times. He saw family farms where cannabis grows side-by-side with potatoes and carrots, in villages where it is a staple crop that has been used for eons to make fabrics, build homes, and produce hashish beloved across North Africa, Europe, and beyond.

He also saw first-hand the complex, unique nature of traditional Moroccan hashish and how “these are not the strains you’re getting from your friend.”

Along the way, he also met new “cannabis brothers” and witnessed firsthand how traditional hashish preparation in Morocco can create music and communal happiness all its own.

Mike and Jordan also discuss how the advent of cannabis prohibition in the U.S. a century ago had a ripple effect felt around the world, altering how indigenous peoples relate to the crop they have grown next to their livestock and vegetables for untold generations.
